Class of 2018 | My Favorite Pieces of the Year

It’s officially the last Friday of the year and I feel like I’m graduating from 2018. We all are! Que “The Graduation Song” and hopefully we’ll be friends forever with 2018. The idea then came to me to create a scrapbook (or yearbook if you will) of this year’s favorite, most loved and worn pieces in my closet and beauty collection. From the blog to social media, these pieces are ones that have come in clutch time after time and have been the pieces that I would consider to be the best purchases of 2018. Without further ado, I’m thrilled to announce my favorite pieces of 2018!

favorite pieces of 2018

Atlantic-Pacific x Halogen Collection || If you all aren’t sick of me talking about Blair’s collection with Nordstrom, then you might be soon. I’m like a broken record here, because this has been by far my favorite collection that has come out this year. Not only did I invest in a poop ton of this collection, but I’ve probably already evened out the cost to wear ratio on the pieces. She did such a great job of providing both neutrals and colors, to be able to layer with other pieces in your closet. They are suitable to wear both casually and to work. She even included both statement and staple pieces to build outfits around. All around, I give this collection a 10/10!

Mustard Yellow || If you’ve been around for a bit, you’ve that my personal pantone color of the year has been mustard yellow. Everywhere I go, I keep buying and wearing the beautiful golden shade. Maybe when I picked the color for Coming in Clutch, I was foreshadowing my future love of the color. Anyways, I think it makes such a beautiful statement and really makes a great first impression to people around you. Plus, it’s a lot more versatile than people think. If you treat it like a tan or a gold, it practically goes with everything. I plan on writing a blog post on how to style mustard yellow in the new year, so keep a look out for that! Some of my favorite, mustard yellow pieces have been this coat (styled here), this jacket (styled here), these slides (styled here and here), and this dress (worn here).

Ofra Cosmetics ‘Atlantic City’ Liquid Lipstick || I’ve been a huge fan of Ofra Cosmetics liquid lipsticks through 3 packaging/brand changes, but the shade ‘Atlantic City’ has a special place in my heart. Some of you may know that I cheer throughout my four years of college at Kent State University (Go Flashes)! When I first made the team, they told us all to invest in a really good red lipstick. It was a part of our uniform and every time we got dressed for events/games, the red lipstick was applied. Throughout my freshman year, I tried multiple red lipsticks. It wasn’t till I came across ‘Atlantic City’ that I understood what a really good liquid lipstick meant. Let me paint a picture for you.

A football game day starts very early for us and ends very late, so it’s quite literally an all day ordeal. From the time I put it on, cheer a half, ate greasy pizza, and cheered another half, it never moved. Mind you I never needed to reapply either. Plus is has a blue undertone that makes your teeth look super white – definitely my forever red lipstick.

J.Crew Pants || J.Crew in general has been a huge reoccurring theme in my 2018 wardrobe. In particular, their pants. There have been 3 types of their pants that have been on a cycle, no matter the occasion. From workwear to casual looks,  these three pants have come in clutch time after time. Let me introduce you to: the easy pant in lace (which I have in red/black/pink), the boyfriend chino pant in polka dot (you can find them here and here), and the 9″ high-rise toothpick jean (my fav is the polka dot pair). I think they they make some of the best pants out their and I’m so glad I invested in these three styles.

favorite pieces of 2018

Old Navy Flared Denim || While we are on the subject of pants, these bad boys have been my most worn pair of jeans to-date. I tend to always find that one pair of fav jeans a year, and this pair has been on a repeated cycle with the J.Crew polka dot ones. Everything I pair them with looks so effortlessly cool. Not to mention, they are beyond comfy. Unfortunately they are no longer available, but they have a similar pair in black (that I have also purchased). They aren’t quite as baggy, but you might be able to get the same effect by going up one size.

favorite pieces of 2018

Straw Bags || This summer, the hype was all around straw bags. I think the fact that they went with everything and added a cool, unique element to everyone’s look, made them a fan fav. More me, I had two straw bags that I wore with everything during the summer. The black and cream one was a steal from Anthropologie. They came in a bunch of different colors, so I’ll be on the hunt for summer 2019 (the same style in all cream). The second favorite straw bag was one from Nordstrom. They always have an amazing selection, and the bucket shape really added such fun, summery flare (similar style). This one would also be super cute for Easter coming up in the semi-near future.

favorite pieces of 2018

Lack of Color Hats || All I have to say is if you want some staple, quality hats – you’ve got to check out Lack of Color. Granted, I’m sure you may have already heard of/own their hats. They really do live up to the hype, though. I own the Fleur Wool Felt Fedora, the Spencer Terracotta Straw Boater  and the Dunes Corduroy Cap and I’m obsessed with them all.

During the summer, the straw boater basically never came off my head (dramatic I know – and styled here). The cord hat is such a fun take on the famous baker boy hat and the cream makes it so versatile (styled here). The fedora added all the western vibes to a look and is always so fun to wear in the fall/winter (styled here). Although, I do need to get a sizing band to go on the inside of the fedora, because it’s a bit too big for my tiny head. Just make sure to pay attention to the sizing. Once you go Lack (of Color), you don’t go back!

Stripes || I didn’t realize how much I wore stripes until I started drafting out this post. Holy moly my whole IG feed is full of them! I kept asking myself why I loved them so much and I came to two conclusions. One, it forces you to at least include two colors into your look. Basically, it’s a full proof way to really have fun with color! Two, stripes are the backbone to pattern mixing. They are simple shapes and work well with other prints. They are the chameleons of the pattern realm. If you want to learn more about how I mix patterns, you can join in the fun here! Some of my go-to striped pieces are this sweater (styled here), this wrap, this turtleneck (styled here), and this sweater (styled here).

Cat Eye Sunglasses || Cat eye sunglasses were definitely a well loved trend during 2018. In fact, I even got them in three different colors… when you really love something, get it in a lot of colors – rule of thumb, people. I think it’s going to be a retro trend that comes and goes, so I always stuck to buying cheap pairs. If you are in the same boat and riding out this awesome trend, these are my favs – one, two, three.

favorite pieces of 2018

Dazey LA Tees || Gotta have me my graphic tees! I think they are so easy to style and also allow you to really express your personality. When in doubt, I always grab a graphic tee, my fav jeans and my slides. This year in particular was a fun year for styling graphic tees, because I became a Dazey LA brand ambassador! When you mix tees with retro vibes and girlbosses, you just can’t say no. If you want to snag some for yourself, you can always use the code “BACH” and save 10%. I got you, girl.

favorite pieces of 2018

White Shoes || I didn’t mean to do this, but it appears that I had a pair of white shoes for each season… opps. I guess that shows how much I love a good pair of sleek white shoes! Sometimes you just need a blank canvas to build your outfit master pieces around. These were the ones that I wore to bits throughout the year – one (styled), two (styled), three (styled), four (styled), five (styled).

favorite pieces of 2018

Spanx Leggings || Weirdly enough, I’m that 1% of the girl popular that doesn’t usually wear leggings unless I’m working out. I’m weird, I know. Although, I’ve finally found the leggings that have reconstructed this belief for me – Spanx. A friend of mine from Nordstrom, actually told me she likes to size up once and it’s so much more comfortable. Such a great tip, that I would have never have tried without her telling me. Do you do this? I’m curious. My two favorite pieces of 2018 are definitely the moto and the side striped leggings. Although, I definitely have my eyes on the camo ones…

favorite pieces of 2018

Slides || If you see me irl, I’m 90% probably wearing slides. For about 3 years now, they have become shoe of choice and I don’t really see that changing for awhile. This year, the newest editions to the fam have been these yellow, ruffled slides and these checked vans. Let me tell you, the amount of compliments I received when wearing both of these pairs was quite honestly bizarre. Don’t get me wrong I’m obsessed, but apparently so are the people.

favorite pieces of 2018

Warby Parker Glasses || Last but certainly not least, my Warby Parker glasses. I just recently got these about 2 months ago, but they have already become a part of my everyday routine. If you are a glasses person, I highly recommend you snagging yourself a pair. Granted, I’m probably the last human on the planet to be telling you this, but I never realized how affordable and easy the babies are to get. By far the most painless glasses process I’ve ever gone through. I ended up getting the Felix frames, and I like to call them my Felix Felicis glasses!
