If you’ve been around the block, then you know how kickin’ the sneakers trend is. From the classic to sport sneakers, it’s an extremely popular and universal trend that is relevant in both women’s and men’s fashion. The idea behind this trend is to really display the unexpected and to mix high and low fashion. For example, the suits and sneakers combo. To help bring this trend to life, I’m partnering up with FILA by reintroducing the Disruptor 2!

Although this trend is currently very lively, it originates from the 90s. Think urban street style during the height of the music scene. My favorite reference of the chunky sneaker trend is hands down throughout Sex in the City. Whether you are creative and funky like Carrie or a girl boss on the move like Miranda, they always rocked sneakers so well. They’re 20 years ahead of the game!

The Sneakers
Personally I think everyone should start off with a sleek pair of white, chunky sneakers. They are the easiest to style and it allows you to really have fun with your outfit. Que the vibrant suits!
As of the past year, suits and sneakers have become a huge, emerging style. Although the chunky white sneakers are more 90s, the full suit and sneakers look is definitely geared towards the 80s. They called it the Yuppie style – Young Urban Professionals. They are hustling and constantly on the move, so they need to remain comfy on their feet but professional on top!
If you want to get a little crazier with your sneaker, then I would suggest keeping your suit a little more neutral. Balance it key, but don’t overthink it.

The Suit
Because the sneakers are pretty chunky, that means that the cut of your suit has to be very strategic and slimming. The best way to create the illusion of lengthier legs is to stick to high-waist trousers with an ankle length. Not only does this allow you to properly show off the sneaker, but it helps add length that the shoes would normally cut off. I would also gravitate towards a more oversized fit for the jacket. This really accentuates the high-waist of the trousers.

I think that sometimes the suit and sneakers trend can be intimidating. Although, it is definitely one that catches everyone’s eyes. If you are apprehensive about trying this trend, really focus on the fit of the suit and creating illusions that help lengthen your legs. Make sure you show a little bit of ankle as well, because it helps with the appearance of adding length.
If you don’t want to look like you are trying too hard, style your suit with a graphic tee. It helps tie in the casual vibes of the sneakers and adds a edgy vibe to a professional suit. It’s all about perspective and the way you mix different styles – so have fun with it!
