Overall Impressions

When it comes to overalls, people tend to perceive them as intimidating. Therefore, they are left to the extroverts who want to make a statement. From what I am picking up, people are putting overalls in the statement piece category. I’m here to bring a different approach to them and overall help break the barriers especially, since they are a basic, staple to every woman’s wardrobe. I’ve come up with a couple of styling to tips to help ease them back into your wardrobe and an essential rather than a statement.

My first tip is to treat overalls as regular denim jeans. Everyone wears denim jeans, am I right? They go with everything and are super easy to style. They are a staple. Now the only thing that is different about jeans and overalls, is the bib. Think of it as a necklace to your outfit. With that one simple step of rethinking overalls, it already eases the apprehension of them, right? I’m not done yet, though.

The next step is what to wear underneath overalls. To reiterate, overalls are just like denim. Whatever you would wear with your jeans, wear with your overalls. The only difference is your outfit is going to have a little more zest than it would with just jeans. For my second tip, pair them with something more modern. With them being a dated trend, it can be easy to look like you’re from the wrong decade. What I mean by this is to stray away from extremely retro pieces, if you are nervous about wearing overalls. Also, be cautious of the print or graphics of your top. The bib will cover most of it, so keep this in mind. I went with basic stripes and incorporated them in both the tee and the cardigan to add a subtle twist.

So when it comes to overalls, don’t be overwhelmed (no pun intended). Put them into simpler terms and think of them as simply jeans.
