50 Shades Of Grey-ish

Let’s talk about this monochromatic trend today, shall we? It’s been killing it recently! Although, it’s been featured more often in makeup than fashion. For example, first it was the all orange makeup looks and now it’s the rosey red eye and lip combo. When it’s being exercised through fashion, most people have been catering to the all black look lately. I really want to try and rock an all white look to defy the fashion rules of seasonal colors, but in the mean time we are going 50 shades of grey… ish.

This season I’ve been gravitating towards anything and everything grey. I’m not really sure why, but I think it’s because grey isn’t just one shade like black and white. There’s 50 of them! This title is really working out in my favor… Anyways, with the variety of shades plus the fact that it’s a neutral, you are bound to find that it goes with every look. To indulge my grey obsession, I focused on bringing back this monochromatic trend.

A great way to rock a monochromatic look is for the holidays! Holidays already tend to have specific colors that represent themselves, so just pick one and run with it. It’s the perfect festive touch, without having a turkey or Christmas tree ironed on your chest. This taupey/grey color is a foolproof transition shade for the fall and looks incredibly chic.

When I think of holiday chic, I immediately think of turtlenecks. This year, turtleneck dresses have been extremely popular, due to the high demand of OTK boots. I found this dress at Lulus and funny enough hated it when I first ordered it. I opened it up and realized I had just ordered a potato sack. A couple days later, I put it back in the box ready to ship out and then had the sudden urge to give it one last shot. As soon as a put it on, I loved it. I’m not really sure what happened in my head, but just goes to show that you should try things on one more time before you send them back. Plus, Lulus has a deal throughout the holiday season. If you sign up for their emails, they send you access to secret sales. I thought this was a cool way of specializing their customers.

As for the OTK boots, these are the first pair I’ve ever owned. I always figured since I’m 5’3 that OTK boots just wouldn’t work for me. I was on mission though and wouldn’t take no for an answer! When I went to Chicago, I found these babies at Nordstrom. Most OTK boots are around $200 for a good pair. With them being so expensive, you want to get a durable and comfortable pair. Not only did I find a pair for $150, but I found a pair with a subtle heel and in an amazing faux leather fabric. Plus, I have yet to see this this greyish/brown shade in a boot. They are so comfortable and don’t slide down either. I even think they help elongate my legs. So cudos to you Hinge!

For those chillier days, a coat is obviously needed. This season, fashion influencers are saying the coat of the moment is a trench coat. Everyone should own a trench coat, because it’s a classic and chic layering piece that goes with everything. I personally had not owned one, until my mom whipped out her favorite one when she was my age. With that, ask your mom if she has any timeless pieces that she can pass down. You instantly have a piece of vintage that means something to you, plus you don’t have to worry about spending a fortune on a new coat. Finish off the look with some greyish accessories and you’ll be contrasting everywhere you go.

I could live in monochrome everyday. Grey is hands down my favorite color in the chillier months and this shade is so much fun! Loving the brown leather OTK’s, too!

I love your take on a monochromatic look with shades of gray! Gray can be so versatile because sometimes there’s more blue in it or more red and it can be worn with so many other items. It made me laugh how honest you were about your original hatred for the dress, but I think you definitely made it work for you! Styled with the boots and that coat – so cute!

I seriously did hate it at first haha. Really digging it now! You are so right though. Depending on the hues it has with it, it can practically be worn with everything! Thanks so much for your amazing feedback Stephanie!!
