How to Master the Art of Monochromatic Dressing

Tossing this winter weather to the curb and it’s time to ring in the Spring! To be quite honest though, I’m not putting away my coats quite yet. I’ll believe it when I see warmer weather for a solid week straight. In the meantime, we can still bring it with our spring fashion game. To get that ball rolling into spring fashion, I thought this would be the perfect time to share some tips on my go-to type of styling – monochromatic dressing!

When I’m not mixing prints, I’m definitely rocking the monochrome looks. Of course it’s fun to play around with seasonal trends, but is there anything better than rocking the classic styles?

Whenever I don’t know what to wear or I want to look instantly chic without even thinking, you’ll almost always find me in a monochromatic look. I’ve been feeling so uninspired lately and something about a solid one color palette scheme that’s so refreshing and weirdly creative. Plus, lilac is such a big color for this season and I’m kind of feeling it!

Now I know I can’t be the only one feeling this way, so I put a list together of my go-to tips for mastering the art of monochromatic dressing. It’s time to take back our creativity from the winter, so let’s do this!

TEXTURES | IT’S ALL ABOUT THE FEELS

When you are styling a monochromatic look, this is the time to really have fun with mixing different textures. It’s the easiest way to get away with all sorts of fabrics, so really take advantage it. In fact, it’s almost essential combo a mixture of fabrics when sticking to one color. Unless you are rocking the power suit, really play up your monochromatic look with a bunch of textures.

MIX UP THE PRINTS AND PATTERNS

Patterns are the more visual interpretation of textures. They help break up the solid mob of color. Sort through your closet and look for a print in the same color you’re working with. I guarantee you, it will enhance your solid color look more than you’d expect. If you’re not a huge print print person, cater that into your accessories – like a scarf or some funky shoes.

THROW ALL THE SHADE

I mean color shade! Play around with the your selected hue’s color family. Not every piece of your look has to have the same exact shade. It’s the easiest way to add some dimension to your look. The darker the tones, the more flattering it comes off. Here’s a tip for all my petite creative geniuses. Stick to your darker hues on the bottom and your lighter versions on top. It really helps draw the eye up, making you look taller and slimmer.

The only time this rule is not effective is for black and white. Stick to the same shades for a more crisp and chic effect.

LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE PETITE GIRLS!

Like I said, utilizing the shades of colors can really add some height for us fun size ladies. With the solid block of color, it really creates the illusion of a leaned out body. It doesn’t matter if you are in a color or a neutral, it works all the same and in favor of the shorties. For added effect, stand in front of a wall with vertical lines… IM KIDDING. But really though.

ADD YOUR UNIQUE FLARE

Everyone has their own style when it comes to fashion. After all, it’s how we can express our creativity and personality! A real lifesaver for us creative introverts. Really have fun with it and add your unique punch to the look. Make it you! Whether is the shoes you pair it with it or a fun print that’s unexpected, make sure it stands out! Monochromatic dressing is the easiest way to really show everyone your inner creativity.
