When a part of the present comes to an end, it’s natural for people to want to grab on to the past. It’s a place that you’re comfortable with and it makes you feel normal in the upcoming, foreign phases. With so many people graduating from college and high school, it makes you realize that a new stage in life is going to happen soon, regardless if you are Peter Pan or not. Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go.
To help ease the emotions from the ending of an amazing college era, a piece from the past keeps me going. My mom, the fantastic photographer of CIC, dug up my dad’s high school, letterman jacket from storage. I know what you are thinking… “FRESHMANNNNNN! Nobody wears letterman jackets anymore, Bryanna”. Well if this is true, then why is Kylie Jenner rocking one on her Instagram? I’m not so crazy anymore now, am I?
To me this piece is the perfect reminder to always hustle in life. I personally hated high school and never felt the urge to get an expensive jacket to remind me of a time in my life that I hated. Obviously, college is a different story. When my mom found my dad’s letterman, I was so excited to finally have one without reminding me of my high school experience. My dad is a business man and an entrepreneur. He works his butt off in all aspects of his life and this jacket reminds me to always do the same. With the beginning of my career path starting, it’s the perfect time to rep this letterman jacket. Plus it cushions the feeling of leaving college.
The key to rocking a letterman jacket is to keep the rest of your outfit super simple. It’s the focal point of the look, so don’t distract from it. Grab the basics from your wardrobe and throw on a cool necklace to complete the look. Nothing says classic quite like denim, a plain white t and some chucks. The letterman adds a cool, vintage element that makes your outfit completely original. Enjoy the last little bit of this period in life. Take the photographs and still frames in your mind. Rep an old letterman jacket. It’s the perfect piece to bring back old memories, while remaining in style. For what it’s worth, it was worth it all the while.
