How Gaming Fuels Creativity in an Era of Technology Toxicity

This post is sponsored by Xbox and the InfluenceHer Collective in celebrating the newest member of the Xbox One family – the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition. All opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that make Coming in Clutch possible!

The life of a content creator can be really exhausting. Scratch that – life in general can be exhausting, content creating or not. Throw in this age of social media toxicity and technology overload and your brain is just about ready to call it a day. While unplugging and stepping away from all things digital is important to do every so often, it can also help refresh your thought process. Today I’m here to defend and speak on technology’s behalf and demonstrate how gaming can fuel creativity in an era of technology toxicity.

Have you ever seen that YouTube video of a professor talking about the differences between the brains of men & women? He calls it the “Tale of Two Brains.” I promise, there’s a point to this. He explains that men’s brains are made up of boxes and there’s a box for everything. Since this a sponsored post in partnership with Xbox and the InfluenceHer Collective, I thought this was the perfect opportunity to utilize this “box theory” and showcase how it drives creativity. Don’t worry – All words and opinions are my own.

Let’s start with the obvious and my personal favorite box to be in…

The Nothing Box

It’s exactly as it sounds. Sometimes your brain needs to do absolutely nothing. It’s kind of like when your laptop is acting up and you don’t know why it’s not working, so you restart the thing. The nothing box is your time to power down and restart your brain. I use this stage to binge some Netflix. My go-to binge has been and always will be (until Netflix takes it away) Friends. It never gets old – 100% the perfect show to come chill out in my nothing box with. Thankfully the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition streams all my favorite 4K HDR content from Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and more. The nothing box opportunities are endless!

Next up is

The Nostalgia Box

Growing up, I was 100% one of the guys. I grew up playing Mario Kart, Mario Party, Super Smash Bros, Backyard Baseball, you name it! With boys being so competitive, I got pretty good at gaming. Now when I take the time to play some video games, it takes me back to childhood brain (which was creativity as heck)! Little kids have the craziest of imaginations and as young adults we kind of loose a little bit of that fantasy. Getting back to those roots really helps take the restrictions off my creative thoughts and allows my brain to run wild with ideas!

Xbox wants you to be able to be able to relive your retro childhood and the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition is the most affordable way to start playing Xbox One games. They took out the disk drive, which means they could price it at $249.99. Honestly, I had no idea I could get an Xbox on a budget.

The third box goes to

The Creativity Box

Creativity comes in all shapes and sizes. Whether it’s in movies, digital art, gaming, etc. there is crazy, creative skills that are showcased in all the effects we see through an Xbox. The key to creative masterpieces is to think outside the box (no pun intended). By taking this time to think of other things like the creative processes behind the games, movies, and TV shows, it gets your brain thinking differently. It can be hard to train your brain to think in abstractive ways. When your mind is relaxed, it’s more open to venturing off. Bet you never thought of that!

Last but certainly not least, I introduce to you

The Travel Box

Whenever I need some creative inspiration, my go-to is to travel. Something as simple as a staycation in the city with my best friend really jump starts my creative process. Grab some snacks and some drinks and make it a weekend! We all need a girls weekend every once in a while! Plus, this brand new console is BEYOND light. I think my laptop weighs more, to be honest. Since it’s all digital, it makes it super easy to build a library of digital games in the cloud that travels with you.

If you are a frequent mover, this is also going to be the perfect console for you. I’m going to be moving into my new apartment in September and I’m so happy to not have to worry about bringing over all my games. It’s refreshing to have a gaming system so light and minimal.

While self-care is essential to your health and sanity, don’t completely dismiss technology to get the job done. The new Xbox One S All-Digital Edition surprised me with its versatility as well how easy it was for me to set up. It really is a plug it in, give it your email and go type console. In a world of complexity, sometimes getting down to your nothing box is the best way to move into something spectacular.

This is so interesting! My husband swears by computer games to keep his neurons firing and rebuilding new connections, but he also loves it bc of that whole “nothing box” you mentioned. And I too didn’t realize how affordable an xbox could be!

I miss my Xbox so much! I used to play all the time and then when I moved in with my fiance, I’ve let it fall by the wayside. Thanks for making me nostalgic (I’m in the nostalgia box!) and wanting to get back out and play again!

What a fun post!! I have always LOVED playing old school video games (Mario Kart, Super Mario Bros, etc), but never really got into XBox. However, I TOTALLY believe in the “let your brain do nothing” idea. So important every now and then. I also agree with getting creative inspo from traveling!!

My husband and I love playing games together to have a bit of fun! He always wins, since I am not as much of a gamer or practiced, but its fun regardless!

These different boxes are interesting! I’m the same way and love to watch Friends to totally zone out. Sometimes my brain needs to do nothing!
