For The Girl Whose Life Plan Is A Hot Mess

When it comes to social media, life is made of unicorns and rainbows. Nothing bad or serious is ever illustrated, and all the greatest hits are showcased to represent our lives. It’s that tinted window that we love to hide our not-so-perfect life behind. Although nobody likes to speak about the low points in life, these moments tend to be major turning points. It’s the perfect stage to evolve from, because there’s nowhere to go but up. Life is a gift, and we are here to enjoy and learn from it. While everyone else advertises the high and enjoyable points, I’m hear to share more of a learning moment.

When you have a plan, it’s like a railroad track. All you have to do is follow the track. Simple and easy. Although, what happens when the train comes by too fast and knocks you off your path? You have to adjust! This is when people tend to crash and burn, rather than take a detour. The ultimate life plan only has one route (I mean it isn’t the ultimate plan for nothing), but I’m here to tell you the brutal truth. Life doesn’t work like that. Some things will never be in our control.

Ever since high school ended, it seems that everyone always had their whole life planned out. They had a full ride scholarship to the school of their dreams, graduated summa cum laude, and had an amazing job lined up for them as soon as they graduated. It’s become a social abnormality to not follow this path, and it drives me insane! Why must we be titled as not good enough, if our life does not go according to plan? If you are in the same boat as me, I’m here to help loosen the reigns on the status quo. This one is for you and me!

If you have been around for awhile, you know that these words are my way of life. Yes planning is needed for some things, but most times it’s really just a security blanket. We all feel comfortable knowing what’s going to happen next. We’re human and some structure is needed. Although, this is a little thing we like to call life, and nothing is completely in our control. I thought I would be completely secure with finding a job directly after school. In reality, I’m lucky if I even get a rejection email. Whatever your life plan is, you will have some bumps in the road. How you rise to the occasion is what truly matters. Who knows; that bump in the road could lead you to your greatest accomplishment. Don’t ever back down from your dreams and goals; always keep fighting!

In order to get to that detour though, you first need to accept your failed plans. Once you fully acknowledge that things won’t always go according to plan, you’re tracks automatically become aligned again. The next step is to train yourself not to plan. This is going to be the hardest part for you type A people. It’s a control thing, and I completely understand. The sooner you let go of being in control though, the more control you gain. Sounds backwards, I know. Although, think about it. The less you plan, the more you are able to adapt and organically problem solve. With these two skills alone, you will conquer the world. Life really does begin at the end of your comfort zone.

The next step is to acquire an obsession; something that you can’t stop thinking about. Once you become obsessed, you develop a more motivated and inspiring you. For example, I’m so thankful that I have my blog to obsess over. Not only does it keep me busy, but it keeps me working in the field I would love to have a career in. This is also excellent experience to show future employers. Furthermore, you are transforming this obsession into a lifestyle. It’s all about that grind to success, not planning!

As you become more motivated and your confidence increases, start thinking of alternatives to achieve that end goal from your previous plan. Now I don’t mean for you to start planning again, but get those juices flowing with options. Therefore, you won’t be completely invested in one plan, and it will be easier to maneuver around. Plus, you will constantly be practicing your problem solving skills. Soon enough, there won’t be a problem you can’t take on. So if your life plan ever becomes a chaotic mess, always remember to hustle more and plan less! Put that energy into what can be controlled and take back your life!

You look SO CUTE. Those shorts are amazing!!! I am definitely a planner in my life. I like things to be planned down to a T. I try to learn to go with the flow but it is definitely hard for me to do that. Thanks for the inspiration!

First you look adorable! Second this is such great advice. I am not a planner I am a go with the flow and figure it out as I go… I think it drives most people nuts but I wouldn’t change it! Love hearing you talk about it! Keep doing what your doing!

What an inspirational post. I’m so glad you’re finding a way to break that mold and be okay with … well, not being okay all the time. Plans change, life changes, and it can be damn frustrating, but also sometimes work out for the better. I never would’ve thought that being diagnosed with a chronic illness, losing my job, and having to move back in with my parents in my 20’s would lead me to my dream job (blogging) … but life is funny that way, and God sure does have a sense of humor haha! I’m grateful for the friends and family that helped me keep everything in perspective!

OMG, this is so me. I definitely think breaking out of your shell and comfort zone has helped me get life together. Also realizing that there is no straight path in life. Love this post girl!
