It’s finally the summer, and those beach bod’s have to be in tip top shape (or so we would like them to be). Although, sometimes the act of going to work out is just too much effort. Am I right? Binge watching Netflix sounds way more up my alley. For me, it’s the getting to the gym or the act of getting ready to go work out that is the hardest. Despite your lack of desire to leave the couch, I’m here to make you feel a little more productive. Today, I’m sharing my secret step-by-step guide to successfully completing a work out, regardless of your motivation!
Step 1: Have a Good Workout Drink
Whatever drink is your favorite, treat yourself to it. The more things you have to get you going to the gym, the better. I always have my blender bottle ready to go with some Pro BCAAs in Raspberry Lemonade. It seriously tastes just like lemonade! Although now that I looked it up, they have it in Peach Mango… Oh my goodness. Anyways, I like to start drinking it in the car so I can “hype” myself up a little more. Plus, it even helps prevent soreness! If I’m not drinking that, I’ll have Spark or fruit infused water! If you know someone who is an AdvoCare affiliate, I would definitely reach out to them for a discount on Spark. They can be pretty pricey. I also suggest getting the packets, because they are way less messy. If you don’t want all the bells and whistles in your drink, definitely go for the fruit infused water. My favorite fruit combo right now is cantaloupe, strawberries and blueberries. It’s so refreshing for the summer!
Step 2: Wear Work Out Clothes You Like
Clothes have the power to completely transform your confidence. Wear some work out clothes that really make you feel good; something that you want the world to see you in. Hands down, my favorite work out clothes are from Calia by Carrie Underwood. This post is not sponsored, but they so graciously sent me some pieces and I just had to share them with you all. If you have been around for awhile, you know how much I love Calia. Check out my two latest post about them here and here. You all, I just genuinely love their products! Their comfy, cute, and innovated perfect for every woman and every workout. Regardless, wear clothes that you feel confident working out in!

Step 3: Do an Exercise That You Actually Like
This sounds like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised how many girls run just because it’s what everyone else does. You will never see me running, unless it’s sprints. I just can’t do long distance worth squat. Although, I still want to burn those calories off and get some cardio in. Instead, I do the elliptical or the stair stepper. Both get your heart rate going, plus I actually like to do them! Working out doesn’t have to be a drag. Make it fun for yourself and even get creative with your work outs. In college, I always loved going to the lap pool. Try some different exercises out, and see what you like!
Step 4: Netflix
Curve ball, right? Honestly, this is my holy grail, greatest tip. If you are like me and are addicted to Netflix, just bring it to the gym with you! This tactic always gets me to the gym, and I even stay longer. It’s also a huge reason why I love the elliptical. Just pop your phone up, pick out your favorite show (I’m re-watching Dexter and I forgot how good of a show it is), and start working away! You’ll be burning loads of calories in no time!

Step 5: Post Workout Protein
I have to admit, I only started this step about a month ago. My brother turned me on to protein, because I wanted to tone up and regain my college muscle back. I was never a fan of protein shakes, because I always felt so bloated and was nervous about a weight gain. My brother is kinda a gym tool (no not kinda… 100%), and knew the exact protein powder that was right for me. He set me up with the Body Tech Whey Tech Pro 24 in Banana Crème, and I’m obsessed! In addition, they have a million different flavors to choose from. If you want variety are unsure of the flavor you want your protein tub in, grab their packets! You can even get them individually in a vitamin shop. Having a yummy drink to look forward to after you workout makes working out that much more enjoyable. Plus, it will even benefit you and your body over time. Gotta get those muscle gains!

With these five steps alone, I guarantee you will get back on track with your workout schedule. Since the start of the summer, this has been on my list to maintain a consistent work out schedule. If you want to check out the rest of the list, I’ve got 11 other things to do for yourself this summer. What helps you work out better, though? Is it a good playlist, a certain drink, or the sauna afterwords? Let me know your thoughts, because the more things to make a work out more enjoyable the better!

When I was trying to get back into running this winter I played Netflix on my phone while running on the treadmill! It meant I could stop to walk, but I couldn’t get off the machine until the whole episode was over! Definitely helped me gain some endurance back.

I’m one of those people who truly lack motivation for working out and must say I’ve read the tips before, but they haven’t motivated me, UNTIL I got to number 4 on your list. That was the best thing ever. I’ve tried music and what not, but haven’t even thought about watching Netflix to be honest. I’ll try that ASAP once I get back to my workout routine. In a couple of weeks or so… haha.
