Imagine a place full of culture, organic beauty, traveling, and fine jewelry. Sounds like a made up destination, am I right? WRONG! This past Saturday, I was asked to attend an event with Yelton Fine Jewelers (in West Chester, OH for my locals) and Simon G, the world renowned jeweler. The concept behind the event was to travel around the world with Simon G, and to explore the hidden gems of the world. For a fun twist, Yelton Fine Jewelers thought it would be festive to tie in #NationalJellybeanDay as well! With all the gems and jellybeans, the event couldn’t be any cuter. Not to mention, I was able to meet the Yelton Fine Jewelers team and Simon G himself. Hearing the passion from the people behind these brands just transforms these gem stones into creative and one-of-a-kind pieces of artwork.

As I was talking to Simon G, he explained that every stone has it’s story. As each of us has a unique journey that we like to call life, so does each gem stone. From mines all over the world, the birth mine of the stone tells the story. For example, Paraiba [PEAR-AH-EE-BAH] (light blue stone pictured below) is by far one of the rarest gems in the world and was only discovered in the 1980s. “Said to sharpen the mind and emotions, this beautiful stone can come in a wide variety of colors and can even be bi or tri-colored, making it ideally suited for nearly any taste.”
Paraiba is a type of Tourmaline and is by far the most expensive type. Tourmaline can come in a variety of different colors, from dark olive green to bright pink. “The stone is named after the geographic area where it was found in Brazil. Color is the most prized characteristic of this stone.” Although, it’s recognition is not as noticed as the sapphire or emerald yet. As an added bonus, only you guys know the true value behind this stone.
As I was saying, Tourmaline comes in a variety of different colors. Sometimes multiple colors can appear in the same stone. Cue these insanely gorgeous pieces right above. This is how Watermelon Tourmaline is born. Depending on the exposure of different mines, the color of the pinks and greens can vary. Exhibit A: each of these three pieces above are considered Watermelon Tourmaline. Although, they are clearly different colors. “This color variation occurs naturally as the gem crystal is growing and is exposed to different minerals.” Because of it’s eye-catching colors, Watermelon Tourmaline really lures in customers. Plus, who can resist a cute butterfly?

Not only do the stones matter when it comes to jewelry, but the creativity behind the construction of the piece matters. In fact, it can make or break a piece. Simon G really takes inspiration from the simplest of ideas. Sometimes, ideas can be right in front of you. With these two necklaces above, his idea came through versatility. By changing a pendant into a more dainty piece, one necklace can become two. In another piece, inspiration struck through a keychain. The options are endless! He is a reminder to always keep your imagination and creativity open, because you never know what will change the game.
Not only does Simon G make incredible fashion pieces, but he also creates timeless bridal collections. As the years go on, what customers want is changing. Trends are cycling through, social media is becoming the place to get inspiration from, and he understands exactly what they want. That’s what makes him such an amazing designer. He listens and adapts.

As we went around the world and back, none of this would have been possible without the amazing team at Yelton Fine Jewelers. I was there for a fraction of the day, and connected with them like family. No matter what you are looking for, they will accommodate your needs. I’m a pretty shy person at first, and even I felt super comfortable and invited into the event. Even though the event is over, you can still customize your own Simon G piece at Yelton Fine Jewelers! It’s three simple steps. Plus, such a unique piece would make for an excellent Mother’s Day or Graduation gift! One, pick your favorite, hand-picked, gem stone from around the world. Next, you can work directly with the Yelton team who will keep you connected with Simon G to design your unique piece. Once it’s created and sent back, be prepared for the best feeling in the world when you receive your special piece.
