Music Festival Survival Guide

Disclaimer: I realize Lollapalooza is over, but these tips can still be utilized for any festival!

It’s about that time for another music festival. This week, it’s all about Lollapalooza! From today through Sunday, festival shenanigans will be taking on Grant Park, Chicago. With my fair share of music festival attendance, I’ve come to learn that it’s all about strategy. Don’t get me wrong, the music is the center of attention. I mean who doesn’t have fun listening to music for four days straight? In order to have the best time possible, some strategic planning is involved. To help maximize the fun and save some time, I’ve put together a music festival survival guide for you to help take on Lollapalooza! Plus, be sure to stop by the Bed Head Hotel for some boho braids!

Light Flowy Clothing

Nothing sucks more than being uncomfortable the entire day. On average, the weather is usually very hot and sticky. The best way to go about avoiding this sweaty mess, is to wear super light fabrics, and preferably fabrics that will aid in your sweatiness. For example, this Free People romper has stretchy smocked band at the back for a comfortable fit, adjustable straps, and is made from a lightweight, semi-sheer fabric. It feels super breezy to wear, and I would be 100% comfortable wearing this all day. Be strategic about the pieces that you are going to wear all day for maximum comfort.

I also thought I would give you the weather forecast for weekend, so you could adjust accordingly. It’s looking a bit chilly and rainy so opt in for a cute hat or a denim jacket!

Today: high of 82°, low of 61°, 50% chance of precipitation

Friday: high of 66°, low of 58°, 20% chance of precipitation

Saturday: high of 78°, low of 63°, 10% chance of precipitation

Sunday: high of 73°, low of 65°, 30% chance of precipitation

The Perfect Bag

Depending on the type of music festival personality you have, the type of bag suited for you will reflect. Personally, I’m one to bring less to have more fun. With that being said, I always opt for a small crossbody bag (like my infamous Rebecca Minkoff bag), backpack, or fanny pack. I like to get involved with the crowd and I don’t want all my stuff to be hold me back. Even in the real world I don’t carry very large bags. Although, this is not the case for everyone. If you need to bring a bunch of stuff to make sure you are prepared for every situation, this Anaya camera bag would be the perfect option! Not only would it keep your camera safe, but you could put your hat and blanket in there for the predicted rain and chilly weather!

Easy Going Hair

Your hair style can either make or break an outfit. You also want to take into consideration the weather, as well. Festivals are all about experimenting with innovative and creative hair styles, so I wanted to jump on to this idea. Granted, I’m sure you’ve seen this hair style a million times before. The real reason why I think this is such a great Lollapalooza look, is because it’s simple, effortless, and stupid easy! When it comes to hair, I need easy! Which is why I’m so glad I got to partner up with one of my favorite hair product companies, Bed Head!

To make this look possible, I first started with washing my hair with the Totally Beachin’ Cleansing Jelly Shampoo + Conditioner. Then I added some Queen Beach Salt Infused Texture Spray, so that my hair wouldn’t slide right out of this hair style. These three products together would also be perfect if you want to rock those boho waves. To bring in the braid element (what’s a music festival without braids), I actually had a head band that matched my hair. You could always braid some of your hair and secure it across your head with some bobby pins. Finally, to keep everything into place, I used the Superstar Queen For A Day Spray with a mist of the Get Twisted Anti-Frizz Finishing Spray.

No matter your hair type or the style you want to pull off, I can always count on Bed Head to come in clutch. If you would like to check out some of their top rated products, you can find Bed Head by TIGI products at Ulta Beauty or on Ulta.com!

Comfy Shoes

This is another topic of where the type of music festival fan you are is going to come into play. If you are one to really jam out with the crowd, I highly suggest closed toed shoes. Some flat booties or sneakers would be perfect options. If you are one to just relax and breathe in the experience, go for the flat sandals. At least your toes will be able to breathe! Even though I should be wearing closed toed shoes, I went with my trustee Vince Camuto Sandals. They go with everything and I couldn’t help myself! They just look so cute with this outfit.

Minimal Makeup

Whether it rains or you just sweat up the storm, having a face full of makeup is not going to look very cute. Plus, it’s sure not helping your skin! Go for the trendy “no makeup-makeup” look. I only used six products to get this entire look. I went for the bronzy complexion. Started off with the Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer (in Vanilla), followed by It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream (in Medium). For warm up my face, I used theBalm Desert Bronzer. To add some color, I used Vintage Cosmetics Blush in Pink Coral and topped my cheeks off with some of their Rose Quartz Highlighter. Add a bold lip and you are good to go! If you need something on your eyes, pop on a coat of Lancôme’s Monsieur Big Mascara. It’s amazing and you need it in your life!

Have a Meet Up Spot

Although I have never been to Lollapalooza, I can almost guarantee that the service is not going to be very great. If you are going with a big group, be sure to have a meet up place so nobody gets lost! That way, you don’t have to rely on your phones. Sometimes, you just gotta kick it old school and go without the electronics.

Get the Artist List

Having the list of artists and their performing times available, will make life so much easier for you. That way it will be easier to delegate which shows are when, and you won’t miss out on any of the bands that you wanted to see! Sometimes, festivals will even have an app with the daily schedules. Regardless of the medium you choose to obtain this list, get it! You paid a lot for these tickets, so make the most of it!

Miscellaneous

Some things are just self explanatory. To make your Lollapalooza experience more pleasant, be sure to bring:

Sunscreen

Sunnies

Deodorant

Gum

Portable Phone Charger

An Extra Phone Cord (to make friends)

Hand Sanitizer

An Empty Water Bottle
