Metal Mixology

The holiday season is upon us. It’s time to get our amour on for all the family festivities. Let’s be honest people. To put it nicely… it’s basically the threshold of hell (name that Christmas movie). Just kidding, but the holidays are full of festive shenanigans. I mean come on. We all have that one crazy uncle. To amp up all the festivities, it’s fun to wear some sparkle. Think about it. When else are you going to wear sequins?

To have a little bit more fun with it, I decided it would be cool to channel a mix of metals. Sometimes mixing silver, gold, rose gold, or bronze together can get a little crazy. The easiest way for me to mix metals is to find a piece that already has a combo of metals. For example, this skirt that I got at Nasty Gal last year has a mix of silver and gold sequins. That made it extremely easy to pair my gold Zara sweater and my silver Topshop booties together. For the record, if you don’t own these booties already, I highly highly recommend them. They are the perfect height and are extremely comfortable. I’m usually a gold kind of girl, but these silver booties are starting to convert me to silver.

If you don’t have any sequin numbers in your closet, I linked a couple of my favorites down below. In contrast, if you want to avoid the whole sequin craze, stick to a simple color scheme. Prints make it more difficult to cohesively mix different metals, just sayin. The main tip for accomplishing this is to make sure that your metal distribution is balanced. What I mean is, make sure you have an even number of each type of metal present throughout the entire outfit. Also, make sure that they are evenly dispersed throughout. I may have silver on my feet and a gold sweater, but the skirt helps balance my outfit out. My necklace helps out as well, for the same reason the skirt does. It has both silver and gold throughout the piece. Just make sure there is a balance throughout the entire look.

Another tip is to stick to maybe two or three different metals at a time. Three is obviously more challenging, but it can be done. To piggy back off that tip, make sure that the shades of your metals are also the same. A shiny silver and a dull silver to me is considered two different metals. Just like gold and rose gold. So make sure that all individual metals are cohesive in shades as well. Just by incorporating that tip alone is going to make mixing metals in your outfit ten times easier. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving week and comment down below what your favorite thing to wear for the holidays! See you Thursday!

I am SO not one to ever break out sparkles in my wardrobe, but for some reason, every year when holiday season rolls around, it’s all I want to wear! I’m also loving metallic foil at the moment. Such a fun texture to play with! Love this look, girlfriend!
