What’s In My Travel Makeup Bag!

Since a lot of you are traveling lately and I just got back from Charleston, I figured this would be the perfect time to regroup and show you what I packed in my travel makeup bag. A lot of these products will vary depending on the time of year, the location, and the activities participated in, obviously. If you’re going to be skiing in Colorado, I’m sure you won’t be taking a ton of makeup, and you’ll probably sub in that weight for extra warmth. Anyways, if you read my Double Dress Dosage post, you found out that I went to revisit the bridal shop I interned at last summer! I also came to help out with Wedding Week, because they happened to be in a fashion show. With that being said, I needed to bring a selective amount, but that could offer a variety of options.

Tartelette In Bloom Palette || ABH Master By Mario Palette || Smashbox Step-by-Step Contour Kit || Vintage By Jessica Liebeskind Illuminating Face Highlighter Set (Limited Edition)

When it comes to eyeshadows, this is one of the hardest parts for me to narrow down. I love to experiment with my eye looks, but I knew I wouldn’t have the space for a bunch of palettes. As a result, I picked two palettes that were very travel friendly in size, and offered a multitude of different styling options. My first pick was the Tartelette In Bloom Palette for obvious reasons. it has been raved about on every beauty guru’s Youtube channel about how this was one of top the palettes of 2016, plus it was very slim and sleek. This makes it perfect for travel. In addition, it even offers a wide range of shades so you can easily lighten for darken your eye look, depending on the event you’re going to.

With the Tartelette In Bloom Palette covering the rosey tones, I knew I needed a orangey, brown palette. Before I did this post, I had no idea that the ABH Master By Mario Palette was limited edition… to make matters worse, I couldn’t find it on Sephora or Ulta. I only found it on Amazon for $300, which it literally insane! If you can get your hands on this palette, please do! It’s beyond amazing. To give you another option, any of the Viseart Eyeshadow Palettes are just incredible and are perfect to travel with. I refrained from originally packing it, because I usually do and I wanted to switch things up. They are my personal favorite eyeshadow formulas, but the downside is their price tag… One palette of 12 colors is $80, so just keep that in mind. Otherwise, they are spectacular!

As for the next palette, I don’t leave anywhere without it. I use the Smashbox Step-by-Step Contour Kit on a daily basis. Every time I contour, I use the cool-toned, light brown shade. When I want to set my concealer, I use the banana shade. Already, killing two birds with one stone in this contour kit! In addition, the middle warmer-toned, brown shade would be a perfect crease shade. So technically, you could kill three birds with one stone. Now that’s impressive!

This last set is a newbie to me that I wanted to try out. I had received this Vintage By Jessica Liebeskind Illuminating Face Highlighter Set (Limited Edition) in my January Boxycharm Box. It swatched beautifully and I really just wanted to test it out. It ended up being the perfect companion to take to a warmer destination, because it even had a darker brown highlight that looked beautiful as a bronzer topper. Such a stunning glow! The pink highlight not only looks gorgeous in the pan, but performs flawlessly. It was the perfect amount of glow to be noticed, but not too much to distract from the rest of your makeup. Besides, I really can’t get enough of my Boxycharm products! Love, love, love!

The Balm Balm Desert Bronzer || Tarte Rainforest of the Sea™ Marine Boosting Mist || Tarte Gifted™ Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara || Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara || Becca Mineral Blush in Flowerchild || IPKN Radiant Cream Primer SPF 15 || Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil (in Zero and Smokeout) || Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer Crème (L9 for Spring & Winter, L11 for Summer & Fall)

As for the rest of my face, I’m pretty good about having one option to work with (minus my lip options). Since I’m not the tannest human being right now, The Balm Balm Desert Bronzer has been my holy grail bronzer since October. It’s just the perfect shade for the colder months when you can’t get away with wearing an orangier bronzer. Not that you ever want to look orange, but the summer is the only time that is remotely possible. Am I right? For my blush, I stuck with my trusty Becca Mineral Blush in Flowerchild. It’s the perfect amount of peach and pink that is mixed together so flawlessly. Not only does this color go with every look known to man, but the fact that I had it in a travel size made it meant to be.

For mascara, I have used only two mascaras as of January last year. The Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara adds the fullest amount of volume I’ve ever seen in a mascara. Mix it with Tarte Gifted™ Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara to add a whole inch of length and you have transformed your eyelashes into real falsies. No joke! My personal favorite eyeliner is the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil. I have found this to work the best on me and it does not budge! I usually bring two shades when I travel; a black and a brown. In this case, my two favorite shades are Zero and Smokeout. They work for every occasion.

As for my concealer, I’m a die hard fan of the Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer Crème. Yes I know, what about the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer. Not going to lie, I tried it and didn’t love it. Kat Von D has my heart when it comes to beauty products. I use the L9 shade for the colder months when I’m pale and L11 in the summer when I’m a bit more tan.

For my primer and finishing spray, I like to try to play around with new options. For this trip, the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea™ Marine Boosting Mist and the IPKN Radiant Cream Primer SPF 15 just happened to be the new options I had in a travel size. I was pleasantly surprised by their performances, though! The Tarte Boosting mist is so good! It smells like a clean and tropical vacation, and it made my skin look fantastic! I think I might actually purchase this in a full size. The IPKN primer, was not as noticeable. Although, I had no issues with it! If I had to grade it, I’d give it a B, but I still need to play around with it more.

Left to Right: Esum G29 Medium Shadow Brush || Morphe M408 Chisel Shader || Morphe 153 Large Chisel Fluff Brush || Smashbox Step-by-Step Contour Kit Brush || Laura Geller Double-Ended Bronzer & Highlighter Applicator || Real Techniques Setting Brush || Bdellium Tools Studio Line 962S Slanted Blusher Brush

I am a creature of habit when it comes to brushes. The three brushes on the left are the three brushes I use for my eye looks. The first brush, the Esum G29 Medium Shadow Brush, is the perfect brush to blend everything out. I always use this after I put each color on to make sure each layer is seamlessly blended out. The second brush, the Morphe M408 Chisel Shader, I use to smudge a dark eyeshadow over my eyeliner. This just makes the eyeliner look more smokey and blown out. The third brush on the left, the Morphe 153 Large Chisel Fluff Brush, is my holy grail eye brush. I can’t do an eye look without it. It’s the perfect brush to pack on color and blend out smoothly.

The top brush I use for contouring. It conveniently comes with the Smashbox Step-by-Step Contour Kit. The next brush, Laura Geller Double-Ended Bronzer & Highlighter Applicator, I use to apply my highlight (at least the fluffy side). This brush came with another Laura Geller product I bought. I usually use a fan brush, like the IT Brushes For ULTA Airbrush Radiance Fan Brush #116, but I happened to have it and it was travel size.

The pink, Real Techniques Setting Brush is what I use to set my concealer. I have yet to use another setting brush; it’s that good and pretty affordable! To apply my bronzer, I use the Bdellium Tools Studio Line 962S Slanted Blusher Brush and I have been obsessed with it! It’s a pretty big brush, but I wanted to bring it with me. Luckily it fit perfectly in my Sephora Collection makeup bag!

Mac Lipstick in Twig || Mac Lipstick in Rebel || Mac Lipstick in Whirl

We are going to keep this section nice and simple. If I had to choose only three lip products to use the rest of my life, these would be the three I choose. Conveniently, they are all Mac products… HA! My all-time ride or die lipstick is Mac’s Rebel, which is the berry shade. With my hair and eye color, nudes just don’t look flattering on me. I need a bolder lip. Basically, you will never see me without having Rebel in my pocket. If I do decide to channel a more nude lip, it does have to be on the darker side of nude. For a pinkier shade, Twig is my go-to. For a more brown shade, Whirl is mine and the Kardashians’ favorite.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Bow N Arrow || Ofra Cosmetics Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Santa Ana || Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Plath || Nars Velvet Lip Glide in Bound || Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Smoky Rose || ABH Lip Gloss in Metallic Rose

Because I have issues, I usually bring a bunch of other lip options. If I was good though, I would only bring those three Mac shades. For my liquid lipstick options, I have to bring my favorites; Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Bow N Arrow + Plathand my trustee Ofra Cosmetics Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Santa AnaWith these three, I have my two favorite liquid lipstick formulations covered. I also have a darker, grey/nude, a rustic red, and the perfect shade of pink covered.

For a metallic shade, Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Smoky Rose is my all-time favorite from the drug store (+ Icy Violet). To cover the lip gloss category, I always bring my favorite lipgloss ABH Lip Gloss in Metallic Rose. Wear it by itself or top it over a lipstick, it always looks absolutely stunning! To finish off the lip sticks, liquid lipsticks, and lip glosses, I always like to throw a wildcard in there. Nars Velvet Lip Glide in Bound is the perfect shade if you want a hybrid between a lipstick and a lipgloss. Such an interesting formula, but the Nars Velvet Glides are amazing!

Tocca Rollerball in Florence || Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge || Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip Waterproof Lipliner Pencil (Favorites in 14C and 10C) || Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm || L’Occitane Hand Creams (favorites in Cherry Blossom L’Eau and Amande) || Tarte Lip Facial Lip Scrub

This last handful of products are just miscellaneous. My favorite perfume is Tocca Florence. When I travel, I just make things easy and I grab a rollerball of it. My new favorite product to travel with is a tube of  L’Occitane Hand Cream! I don’t know what I was doing in life before I had these, but they are lifesavers! My favorite scents are Cherry Blossom L’Eau and AmandeTo follow this hydration theme, Burt’s Bees is my forever choice of chapstick. Traveling without a couple tubes of them is just a sin. I’m not kidding! My final hydration product is the Tarte Lip Facial Lip Scrub. It’s the perfect thing to put on your lips right before bed to get rid of all the chapped skin from the day’s events.

When it comes to lip liners, I only bring two and they both happen to be Make Up For Ever. The Aqua Lip Waterproof Lipliner Pencils are by far the best lip liners I have ever tried. They make your lipstick last all night, and it does not budge what so ever! With these guys, you don’t have to worry if you have lipstick sliding all over your face. My two favorite colors are 14C (a berry shade) and 10C (a mauve, pink shade). Such staple liners! Finally, what’s life without a beauty blender? My current favorite version is the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, because it has the flat side. This allows me to more precisely blend in my concealer. By the way, have you seen the beauty blender challenge yet? Check it out here, if you haven’t. It’s hilarious!

Sephora Collection Breakups To Makeup Bag

To warp this post up, everything I have talked about can fit into one of the Sephora Collection Breakups To Makeup Bags. It’s the perfect size to travel with, because you can fit quite a bit. At the same time though, it doesn’t allow for you to make it bulky. The thinner the products you pick, the more stuff you can fit into you bag… I’m such a bad influence. These are the rest of the bags in the Breakups To Makeups Collection, and aren’t they just hilarious?! Sephora is just the greatest.

I hope I helped you out a bit with a couple tips and tricks on what/how to back your travel makeup bag. I also hope you are off to somewhere fun next! Let me know where you are traveling to in the near future. What did I miss that you love to travel with? I’d love to hear your suggestions!

Being a guy I don’t carry ALL of that around with me, but I never leave home without a good primer, concealer and some mineral powder. It’s all about covering flaws, but looking natural. No one could tell I wear makeup and that’s when I’ve succeeded perfectly! šŸ™‚

Such a great roundup! I feel like it’s so hard to narrow down eyeshadows too and I would really love to have just one or two palettes – but let’s be realistic here. I have been DYING to try that Tartlette! Think it might be time to pull the trigger!!

Oh my goodness, you will love it! Such a great palette. So easy to tone up or tone down and it’s by far the best palette to travel with. I’m such a bad influence, but pull the trigger! šŸ™‚

This is such a helpful post! I am a huge fan of KVD and I own her lipstains and powder contour palette, I have yet to test out her concealer because I never feel like I need to use it but I gotta test it out while I’m at sephora some time! Thanks for the tips!

    • February 1, 2017 / 10:02 pm

Oh my goodness, I’m so glad it helped you out! KVD is the bomb! You should 100% try her concealer. I’m not a foundation person, so I use it to conceal blemishes is all and it’s beyond amazing. You do need to set it, but everyone sets their concealer anyways. I personally don’t see the issue. She is just so good with all her products. Love the contour palette and her lip products! Thanks again for stopping by Huyen! šŸ™‚

That’s actually a really good idea that I have never considered. Maybe that’s what I need to do! Thanks for the suggestion, Nicole!
