Updated Oxfords | Three Looks, One Top

The great thing about the basics in your closet is their versatility and their ability to remain timeless. Am I right? No matter the situation, they always come in clutch. As you grow up and expand your wardrobe to incorporate more sophisticated pieces, one of the number one pieces you should own is an oxford shirt. They are easy to throw on, they go with everything, and they instantly take your outfit to the next level of class. While they are especially relevant for work and professional events, they can go with just about anything. With one of this Spring’s biggest trends being updated oxfords, a couple of examples are needed to validate my point.

 “The Work Uniform”

This season is all about incorporating different trends into our everyday pieces. This OTS, oxford blouse from Shein is the perfect example. Not only is the OTS detail incorporated, but the lace-up trend is infused into the piece, as well. The great thing about the lace-up element of this blouse is that you can switch up the styling, depending on the look that you want to portrey. Each of these outfits has a different twist on the sleeve, so be sure to keep an eye out for that. In this “work uniform”, I wanted to subdue the sleeves a bit. Instead of tying bows, I wrapped the fabric around my arms and pinned them for a more elegant and dressed-up look.

To keep this work appropriate, I knew I wanted to style this Shein top with this Anthropologie skirt. Any plaid skirt will do, though. A longer length is more pertinent to the overall professional atmosphere. I found a black and white plaid, skirt that would work just as well. The mix of the different lines add more dimension and style to the look. Since it is still cold, my Cole Haan OTK booties were going to seal the deal. With them being flat, they are much more comfortable for an entire day’s work. Throw on a coat and you are good to go! The boucle moto-styled, jacket adds a more youthful vibe to the overall professional, work uniform.

This look is all about the everyday festivities. Whether you are meeting people for lunch or going shopping, this outfit is meant for daily activities where you want to look cute. These Zara embroidered jeans are perfect those people who aren’t an advocate for embroidered jeans. The slight floral detail on the bottom adds the perfect touch of the trend, but doesn’t overwhelm. Since they are distressed, it adds a more casual and effortless feel to the look.

To accessorize, I really wanted to incorporate the white bootie trend. I realize these are not booties, but they are in fact mules. This is a great way to incorporate the trend, but in a much more suitable option for Spring. That is whenever the weather starts to warm up. I got mine from Zara for under $40. To pair with the shoes, this Zara pineapple purse really complements the pop of white. Since it is black and white, it will go with everything! Plus, it adds a fun and playful piece to the look. I mean, who doesn’t love pineapples? I just added my Topshop oversized, denim jacket, because the wind was killing it that day! Sorry, I was on a bit of a Zara kick this past week. Stay tuned for a haul on my Instagram story!

P.S. Did you notice the sleeves are now big bows, instead of a wrap? Super versatile, right?

For the final look, I really wanted to show how to dress down a sophisticated, tailored piece. On those days when you need to run around and get some errands done, you want to be comfortable. To accent the stripes in the shirt, I incorporated a different kind of stripe. This Spring is all about integrating and mixing different types of lines. I got these striped leggings from Madewell, but I know you have at least five pairs in your closet. Just use one of those! To keep that comfy, casual look going, I threw on some Converse, a Forever 21 faux-leather hat, and a floral scarf. These pieces will allow you to easily get around town, but in a comfortable manner. Ain’t nobody got time to dilly dally!

Finally, I added this Saks Fifth Avenue clutch to throw your money, credit cards, and phone in. That way you can just throw it in your grocery bag, and carry on with the rest of your errands. For the final sleeve option, I tied the strips into smaller bows. I never realized how versatile this Shein oxford was till I had it. Plus, all of their merchandise is super affordable. This allows you to be able to play with the season’s new trends, but at a much more doable price. Trends tend to recycle, so sometimes it’s hard to find the urge to splurge on trendy pieces. In conclusion, I challenge you to try out the updated oxford trend this Spring! Fashion is all about coordinating the new with the timeless pieces, and I think this trend is the perfect example of it.

This goes to show how versatile one single piece can be and how many different occasions it can be used at. I must say I loved number two both because of the white booties (let’s not reveal the secret behind them) and combining them with those beautiful jeans!

Okay so I am tooootally biased whenever I see a pineapple, so I have to say that #2 is my absolute fave! You know I’m a sucker for denim too! That light wash is ah-mazing and those white mules? Totally nailed the look lady!

That top is so pretty, modern and on trend Bryanna. I love it when the buttons are on the front. Each outfit is so different yet styled so well. I think the very first outfit is slightly my favorite. The skirt and coat are just fabulous! Now I wish I had kept my little pineapple crossbody bag from about a decade ago.

I’d love for you to stop by my blog and linkup this Thursday with me. Stop by on Thursdays and share your great sense of style with my readers. =) Thanks and Happy Hump Day!
