Some Things Never Change | Transitioning Your Summer Pieces Into Fall

IMG_8873_

Life goes by way too fast. Somedays go by faster than others. We are taught to always move forward and to never look in the rearview mirror, but why? I believe that we can learn a lot from our pasts. A lot of times, we can transition these learning experiences into the present. As kids, my mom would always take my brother and I to A&M Farm Orchard in Milford, OH. Every fall it was a chance for us to play hooky from school and enjoy some fall festivities. To this day, those are some of the best memories that I remember as a kid. It got me thinking; why can’t we use our past to our advantage? Today, I’m taking this to a more fashionable level of course and sharing my tips for transitioning your summer pieces into fall!

1) Don’t Be Scared Of Color

During the summer, it is very common for people to experiment with color. It’s fun, youthful, and encompasses the season. If you are trying to easily style a summer piece, use color to your advantage. For example, I got these Zara embroidered jeans this past summer. In order to easily transition them into the fall without it looking too obtuse, incorporating color is an easy plan of action. This Anthropologie pom pom sweater, is perfect for the fall, because it is obviously a sweater. Plus, this mustard color makes it the perfect bridge for merging two seasons into one outfit. Not only is it bright, sunny, and happy, but this golden/mustard color is so on trend for this fall!

2) Experiment With Texture

Incorporating texture is especially effective for the colder months of the year. When you think of clothing with texture, what do you think of? My mind immediately goes to velvet, chunky knits, leather, fringe, corduroy, suede, etc. You get the point. Texture is especially popular in clothing during the fall and winter. Therefore, it makes for the perfect transition fabric! Let’s take this sweater for example. You can physically see the knits and pearls throughout this Anthropologie sweater. It gives it more of a layered look, which is what we tend to do to stay warm. Also, my Goorin Bros. hat follows suit. With it being leather, it instantly adds a more durable element to the hat. Heavier fabrics tend to work better for those colder seasons.

3) Update Summer Trends

Floral is and was a very big trend. I don’t think it will ever really go away. During the spring and summer, it is especially relevant. Although this fall and winter, it is also very popular. In order to transition you summer pieces easier into fall, maybe try to take a stab at incorporating your summer florals into your fall wardrobe. Because it is an embroidered floral detail, it adds texture. Therefore it adds depth to the look, which we just discussed is perfect for the fall. Just because it is floral, doesn’t mean we can’t update it and transition it into fall!

4) Brown Is The New Black

Black can be a very harsh neutral. Yes it goes with everything, but it sometimes doesn’t mesh very well with bright, summery colors. With that being said, maybe try transitioning brown into your look instead. That way it better blends together your summer and fall pieces. Let’s take all my accessories for example. This Urban Outfitters bag, reptile print mules, and Goorin Bros. hat transitions this summer look into fall better than if they were in black. Right? Yes black is amazing for the fall and winter, but it’s just a smidge harsh for the summer. Therefore, brown is the new black!

5) Finish Off The Look With A Bold Fall Lip

My go-to tactic for looking put together when I’m not, is adding a bold lip. It seriously takes you from 0-100 in about 5 seconds. Incorporate that tactic into your fall looks. It works for seasons as well. By adding this rustic and bold lip color, I instantly look that much more suited for fall. Sometimes the finishing touch can really make an outfit. If you feel your outfit isn’t quite fall enough, add a vampy lip and you are good to go! Transition your bright neon, lip colors into more muted, rustic, fall colors.

With the holidays right around the corner, it’s time to be cautious about what we are buying for ourselves. It a time of giving, so start shopping in your closet. With these 5 simple tips, I know you can transition any of your summer pieces into fall. Piece of cake! Plus, things are always changing and it’s nice to know that we will always have that go-to pair of jeans that you wore all summer long. They shouldn’t have to be limited to just that one season, so show them a fun night on the town!
