Finals are around the corner and it’s a race to the finish! How much studying can get done before the final? How much time is left till this project is due? Honestly, I don’t even know how I found time to make this post. After going home this past weekend, it occurred to me that another race is coming up this weekend. On Saturday May 2nd, twenty thoroughbred horses will run for the roses and race in the Kentucky Derby! Since it is my ole Kentucky home, it would be a travesty if I didn’t write this.

The Kentucky Derby is the first of three horse races in the Triple Crown. The Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes occur later on, but the Kentucky Derby is the biggest event in the state! Even celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Luke Bryan and the President sometimes make an appearance. It’s an event of tradition and a race of odds. Instead of going for the traditional sundress and fancy hat ensemble, I felt it would be unexpected to dress from the jockey’s point of view. With the exception of the horses, they kind of do all the work. Why not give them some credit?! Get ready to place your bets and sip some mint juleps, because this is racing Kentucky style!
