Lean, Mean, Green Machine | Top 8 Pieces to Invest in 2017

Before I begin, we are going to talk about this elephant in the room… This green background is insane! As my first styled post in the year of 2017, I wanted to come in with a bang. With the Pantone color of the year being Greenery (aka this exact color of these doors), I figured that my storage unit was the perfect place to shoot. Yes, this is at my storage unit. Apparently they are top of their color-theory research. Anyways, fashion is a super fast-paced and ever-changing cycle. It’s difficult to determine what pieces to really invest in. I thought this would be the perfect time to really discuss what pieces we should invest in this year and what pieces to put away in storage, if you will. Green is for investing and I have the top 8 pieces to invest in for 2017!

1. A Sturdy, Heavy Duty Winter Coat

I mean, for obvious reasons… I’m assuming you already have a winter coat, but this is a new year. You are maturing and your winter coat needs to correlate. Invest in a really sophisticated and timeless coat that you can wear out to events, dinners, meetings, or even a date night. You need to have a classy coat in your wardrobe that you won’t feel underdressed in when you have those fancy work events you have to attend to.

2. Jeans That You Love

Whether they are Blank NYC Jeans, Lucky Brand, Levis, or AEO jeans, find some that fit you impeccably. Once you find those, never let them go. If they are more expensive, you will have that pair of jeans forever and you will always have that go-to pair of jeans. If they are much more affordable, like AEO, stock up! Finding clothes that make you look good and feel good are hard to come by! From here on out, stick to finding clothes that fit you and think of them as investment pieces.

 3. Quay Australia  Sunglasses

This sounds a little ridiculous to invest in, because they are $50. Whether you consider them expensive or not, they are still way more affordable than designer shades. In addition, they are becoming the sunglasses brand of the century. Besides, don’t you tend to misplace your sunglasses anyways? I know I do. Wouldn’t you rather have a bunch of pairs of good quality and affordable sunglasses, than one pair of designer shades? I love to have options, so invest in a bunch of Quay Australia sunglasses. You won’t regret it!

4. A Multi-Purpose Bag

Everyone has that neutral bag that is their go-to purse for multiple months. I’ve been noticing a trend lately, that many bags are transitioning into being a bag that has more than one purpose. From a bag to a backpack or a clutch to a crossbody, you have more ways to wear and use this bag. The more fortuitous way to buy pieces is to have it be used for multiple functions. This also allows you to mix and match your styling options more often, plus a fun color wouldn’t hurt. Maybe an electric blue bag would be perfect… (keep reading to figure out why).

5. Cole Haan Shoes

When it comes to Cole Haan shoes, he is taking care of business. Whether you are a #girlboss and taking names in the working world or are going on interviews to be that girl, you need to invest in this brand. They have the best variety of business and business casual shoes for men, women and kids. Not only to they have variety, but they have the best quality ever and it shows in the structure and sadly the price tag… I promise you will thank me though, because you will look good and feel good in the working world. It’s all about confidence you portrey and Cole Haan sure gives me confidence all the way through my toes.

6. Three Belts

This is such a overlooked piece that needs to be done correctly. If you are anything like me, you use the same three belts over and over again till they are worn to bits. It’s a joke with my mom and I, because I always wear mine till they get all gnarly and my mom can’t stand to see them. Reluctantly, I always get new ones at Christmas. Moral of the story, invest in three really good belts (black, grey, and brown) that you love and fit you perfectly. I promise, you won’t need any other belts if you follow my advice.

7. Everyday Jewelry

When it comes to everyday jewelry, I’m an earrings girl. Some of you may be a ring girl or a necklace girl. Regardless, find that brand of jewelry that is durable enough for you to wear every single day. For me, I wear my Kara Yoo earrings and I cycle through the pairs that I have. They are so dainty and light that I never feel them throughout the day. Plus, the materials she uses are tarnish-resistant Sterling Silver, Gold-Fill and solid Gold. Not only will it not tarnish, but it doesn’t irritate my ears, even after wearing them everyday.

8. Undergarments

Let’s be real you all. We wear these every single day. There’s no “sanitary” way around this, so you might as well invest in the undergarments that you love. Even if they are expensive, the wear to cost ratio will get obliterated and you will end up saving money. The key to success is knowing your size. Once you know your size and the styles you like, it’s time to stock up!

I’m not going to lie. The Pantone Color of the Year for 2017, Greenery, is not really speaking to me. I’m all down for a green, but I feel that not many people are going to gravitate towards it. Ya feel me? Personally, the only way I can really see it working well is if it’s paired with a blue. That’s why I pulled in the blue Cole Haan shoes and the electric blue Zac Posen bag. I feel that it could be a great accessory color, but I’m not understanding the direction of it being the main event. Does anyone else feel the same way? Let me know on that and also comment what pieces you feel need to be invested in for 2017!

I’m with you- I’m not a huge fan of the color, at least as one to be worn! I love looking at trees and grass that color, but not wearing it haha! I love your staples, and feel similarly about most of them! I also loooove Zac Zac Posen bags!! <3

I can’t stress the fact about jeans enough! If I find a way of jeans that fit me perfectly (and they’re somewhat cheap) I’ll stock on them in all colors they come in, haha. I don’t know what you have in your storage space, but I’d seriously need one for all my clothes, haha.

Right?! Jeans are the hardest pieces to shop for. I actually hate shopping for them… Once you find the ones that fit though, it’s like striking gold!

Such a creative post with such great advice! I definitely agree with investing in a quality coat, a versatile bag, and everyday jewelry. I’m an earrings girl too, and I have about three or four pairs that I rotate through on a weekly basis haha.
