Kris Kringle & Khaki | 5 Coats You Need This Winter

IMG_1331_

I think the weather is playing games with us, you all. It seems to have missed fall, gone straight to winter, realized this, and is going back to fall weather. It’s a constant battle of if we need winter coats or not! I’m tired of playing games, and I’ve decided that it’s better to be prepared. When I shop for winter pieces, coats, jackets, and sweaters are my weakness. With that being said, I’m using this to my advantage for you guys! Today, I’ve rounded up the top five coats you need for this winter. I realize this might be a bit extreme for some people, but there are so many amazing coats out there! I can’t help myself with all these gorgeous coat trends. Really, you should be thankful that I narrowed it down to five…

Parka

It’s the classic “holy sh!t, it’s cold” coat. Parkas always come in clutch, because they almost always go with every single outfit. With that being said, I like to get one in a neutral color. This year I scored this khaki, Sam Edelman parka for only $80 at the Nsale. Luckily for you guys, it’s back down to that price! Not only is it incredibly cheap for a coat, but it doesn’t sweat you out either. This one is a lot lighter than the typical parka, but that’s what I like about it. Usually, coats are pretty heavy. This coat keeps you super warm (even with it’s light fabric), but it also caters to your incredible layering game. The limit does not exist to how much you can layer with this coat!

Plaid

Plaid is always a staple in everyone’s wardrobe. A plaid coat should also be a staple in everyone’s coat collection. I eve have a black and white plaid coat from last year that I got at Banana Republic. Not only will plaid never go out of style, but it keeps the rest of your outfit timeless. Plus, plaid has the ability to either work as a statement or as a complement. Never the less, it never fails to not come in clutch!

Faux Fur

Faux fur coats always seem to be a fan fav every winter. I mean, who can blame it? Faux fur coats add such a luxe feel to any outfit, and are the perfect options for all those holiday parties. If you are a fashion fanatic like myself though, it doesn’t stop there. As the years go on, faux fur has been increasingly becoming a great street style piece. My favorite way to wear a faux fur coat is to actually dress it down with some distressed denim. You know how I love to mix high and low pieces! You should try it out for yourself!

Trench

If you don’t have a trench coat in your wardrobe right now, you need to get one immediately! Like the rest of these coats, trench coats will NEVER (and I mean NEVER) go out of style. My trench coat happens to be my mom’s trench coat from when she was my age. She said she wore it almost everyday, and it was her saving grace for work + events. Maybe it will be your saving grace too!

Quilted Puffer

Out of all these coats, I feel this is the trendiest of them all. At the same time though, they still are a more modern staple that everyone should have. I bought a maroon, puffer coat when I studied abroad in Italy. I bought it there, and used it everywhere I went. Not only was it good for traveling, but it allowed me to layer as much as I pleased. Plus, they manage to stay in awesome condition no matter how much you use them. I wore mine to bits, and it’s still frequently worn piece in my closet. Just goes to show that even more modern trends can become timeless.

Now I hope you don’t think that I want you to go buy all five of these coats this season. Absolutely not. Coats are investment pieces that should be accumulated over time. Take a look in your closet, and use this list more as a check point. What do you have, and what is on your shopping list? What is your favorite coat? With this in mind, I wanted to focus on coat trends that will never really go out of style. That way, your coat collection can continue to go with you. Soon enough you’ll even have some pieces in there that you can call vintage!

Seriously, I’m obsessed! Couldn’t believe how cheap it was at the Nsale (and now…)! Plus, who knew Same Edelman created anything other than shoes? Hidden gem, maybe?
