Double Dress Dosage

Greetings from Charleston! I’m in South Carolina for Charleston Wedding Week and I couldn’t be more excited. Hense, my insta stories… No, I’m not getting married. Let’s just get that straight first. If you have been around for awhile, you know I interned for a bridal shop called Betty Bridal Atelier that sells couture, designer, wedding dresses. Therefore, I’m back to visit and to help our with the Wedding Week shenanigans (a Charleston Wedding Week Post will be coming soon)! Since I’m in Charleston, I figured this would be the perfect time to express my love for this new styling tactic I fell in love with; double dresses. I mean the weather is right up this alley so, it was meant to be.

I realize that the t-shirt, slip dress trend is in full swing. My original idea for this post was to incorporate that trend, but then I had an idea. Why not just add another dress underneath instead of the t-shirt. With the cooler weather, the double dress deal adds more warmth and ultimately an interesting take on the trend. This striped Kenzie dress underneath adds an awesome unique and geometric element with the tiny slit on the bottom. In addition, a striped, t-shirt dress is such a staple and versatile piece to have in your wardrobe. Such a cute twist on a modern trend, if I do say so myself.

As for the velvet Urban Outfitter dress, this is the show-stopper piece. I know it’s not a slip dress, but it’s even better. I don’t know about you, but I can’t get enough of this velvet trend! Furthermore, the heavier fabric adds more warmth and texture to the look. In addition, it has an incredible drape to it. When you walk (or twirl in my case), it just has the most amazing movement to it! I’m telling you, this dress is a must have. All you have to do when it gets cold is throw a denim jacket on over it!

Instead of pairing the look with the ever popular OTK boots (just to be different), I figured it would be fun to utilize the sock and heels trend. This might work better for a warmer day, but non-the-less it’s still adorable! I kept the velvet theme going and paired my Topshop block heels with it. Seriously you all, you need these shoes! Not only are they under $50, but I have worn them non-stop this season because of how comfortable they are. In addition, they look vintage, which is always the end goal. I mean, let’s be real.

For final touches, I loaded up and had fun with jewelry! As a result, I layered on this pendant Kenneth Cole necklace and a very special necklace from my boyfriend to add a punch of sparkle. Too enhance the quirkiness of the outfit, these J.Crew spiked, studs are perfect for this Alice in Wonderland-ish shoot. To be able to utilize your closet, while still being able to incorporate some new trends is completely possible! Try pairing pieces together that you normally wouldn’t. Sometimes, style is all about trial and error. See what works and learn from what doesn’t work!

This blue velvet paired with the grey is just perfect! I’m loving this trend too but have yet to find the perfect pieces! So jealous of your Charleston visit, BTW!

It totally looks like those dresses were made to be worn layered together! It’s such a cute style, and the way you combined the patterns and textures is just dynamite. Have fun at Wedding Week!

You’ve combined all the things I love, that is stripes, denim and velvet!! šŸ™‚ I love the outfit and that final touch with the jewelry just perfects the outfit. I also like that you’re not falling for the OTK trend with this outfit as it stands out on its own! šŸ™‚
