Don’t Mod-ify Do

The 60s were a time of individual freedom and experimentation. It was a time of popular culture in which art, music and fashion were the key influencers. With the 60s making a huge comeback this fall/winter, it’s time to mod-ify our outfits up a bit. Everything A-line, monochromatic, color-blocked or structured will help you transform your look. What goes around comes around and this swingin’ decade is definitely working out. Time to channel your inner Twiggy or your favorite Beatle, because only time will tell if I’m right or I am wrong.

In order to not come off outdated, it’s ideal not to go overboard with mod, influenced pieces. Have a focal point, a few accessories or a silhouette that was predominant during this era. I decided to focus on two key pieces to help give off an appropriate mod style. The first piece is the striped sleeveless sweater. The bold, contrasting stripes help add to the A-line silhouette that the sweater slightly gives off. My mom even told me she used to have one just like it. The second modifier is the corduroy shorts. I decided to put a twist on the corduroy skirt trend, which ultimately was more comfortable when exploring Rome. To modernize my look, I added the most iconic tennis shoe of this year. White, high-tops are by far the most versatile sneaker to date. No matter the outfit, they add a casual feel that is appealing to almost everyone. There’s no time for fussing and fighting my friend. Slap on some of that Pantone of the year, Marsala, and you’re ready to work it out!

I have always thought that it’s a crime, so I will ask you once again. What is the key to successfully working out the 60s, mod trend? Don’t over-do it! Stick to a focal point, a few accessories or a silhouette to let the trend do the talking. Add some modern pieces, such as a pair of converse or a studded bracelet to balance out the look. Promise, you will make Twiggy and The Beatles very proud. Do I have to keep talking till I can’t go on?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM! This one’s for you.
