Check Into Fall | How To Transition Gingham For This Season

Incase you lived under a rock the whole summer, gingham was the print of the season. Seriously, it was everywhere and taking over the world! The cute picnic blanket print, was ideal for every kind of summer festivity known to man. Gingham is also a great way to incorporate a print into your look without even trying. It’s basically a neutral, am I right? With that being said, I didn’t want the fun to end. In order to keep this gingham trend alive, I wanted to show you how to easily transition this summer print into fall!

The great thing about gingham is it’s ability to transition from being a print to a neutral. When you think about prints, which one do you usually gravitate towards? I’m thinking there is a solid chance that it’s some category of stripes. This linear pattern makes it super easy to pair with other pieces, for example this graphic tee. This season, graphic tees are essential for fall layering. Although, let’s get back to gingham. Squirrel! As I was saying, styling gingham is foolproof. Even for people who are scared to incorporate prints into their wardrobe, gingham is the easiest and most flattering way to do it. Not only does it show that you are up to date with current trends, but it shows that you are a risk taker without even being risky!

Now that we have established gingham’s transitioning skills from print to neutral, let’s chat about how easy it is to transition it from summer to fall:

Use It’s Plaid Like Appearance To Your Advantage

The number one print for fall is always, and will always be plaid. After all, plaid is really just a series of stripes layered over each other. How easy is it to style plaid?! It’s amazing how similar plaids and gingham really are. Use this to your advantage! Instead of using the typical and every popular plaid print, substitute it for some gingham. You’d be surprised how much of an edge gingham actually brings to an outfit. Let’s take my outfit for example. I could have easily incorporated a plaid skirt with this look, and it would have looked just as cute. Because, it’s contrasting black and white color combo, I think the gingham jumps out more. It’s like at the eye doctor. Always pick the animal that just slightly sticks out more. It can make all the difference in your prescription. How was that for a comparison?

Bring Other Fall Trends To The Table

By bringing in other super relevant fall trends, people won’t think you are living in the past season. I decided to incorporate three major fall trends with this outfit: menswear, belts, and felt hats. I’ve always been a tomboy at heart, so bringing in some menswear inspired pieces is natural for me.

When I was at NYFW, I popped into the Scotch & Soda store in West Village. From texture to structure, their F/W 2017 collection perfectly combined beauty with protection. Fall is all about the clever layering game, and they really understand how to craft a world full of heritage and with the season’s new silhouettes into one collection flawlessly. Furthermore, I couldn’t leave without snagging this beautiful denim bell boy jacket. It perfectly combines my two favorite things: denim and menswear inspiration.

The next big trend this fall is to belt everything! Whether it’s belting your pants to your coats, this fall is all about forming a figure underneath all those fall layers. I used my beloved Vince Camuto belt (that is torn to shreds but I can’t give it up), although I totally have my eye on the Barcelona studded belt from B-Low The Belt. Finally, a fall outfit is not complete without a hat. I’ve always been a hat person, but my love for them is growing stronger every day. A hat just really completes a look, while making your outfit different from everyone else. Everyone can be wearing a t-shirt dress and a plaid shirt, but add that hat and you become one of a kind. I snagged this gorgeous cream hat from Anthropologie, along with another killer hat that you will see very soon!

Experiment With Different Silhouettes

With menswear being a huge focal point for fall trends, designers and brands are getting creative with their silhouettes. Jackets are more structured, and pants are becoming more wide-legged and cropped. Channel your easy, breezy, causal self and get yourself a pair of culottes! Not only are they extremely comfortable, but they really give your legs a more elongated illusion. It sounds crazy with the wide legs, but just trust me! If for some reason you still aren’t feeling so breezy, try out a more structured look. Pant suits are coming in hot this fall, and they are basically universal. Everyone loves to look slim and sharp, right? Find yourself a killer gingham suit, and girl you will run the world!

Transitioning gingham into the fall doesn’t have to be so hard and dated. Take control of your styling, and really make people pay attention to you. If you want to be someone, and you want to go somewhere, then you better wake up and pay attention! Incorporate some other fall trends, take advantage of it’s plaid like features, and really experiment with different silhouettes. If you stick to those three tips, I promise you will flawlessly transition that summer trend into fall!
